About Me
Born in Montgomery County, PA I began reading music before I could read words — thanks to my big sister who gladly passed along to me what she was learning at her lessons. By five years old was also taking lessons.
By age nine, I was accompanying our elementary school chorus and immediately loved it. Through high school I studied with instructor Ronald Kershner in Doylestown, Pa. who was instrumental (no pun intended) in transforming and elevating my technique and artistry. My piano practice and performing continued through college (Muhlenberg, Allentown PA) where I studied with music instructor Rachel Clifton who pushed me even harder towards piano excellence. After graduating in 1989, I performed with local musicians, theater groups and vocalists. Of course, I love teaching every bit as much as I love playing with other musicians. Helping my students learn to make their own music — with their own hands — is incredibly rewarding and a vocation that I'm dedicated to. There's nothing quite like seeing a student's face light up when they've accomplished what seemed impossible to them. Whether you're looking for a piano teacher, accompanist or performer, I approach any opportunity with a sincere desire to do my very best for you. Melissa McVaugh |
